Buttery Bros Compete in Inaugural World’s Toughest Mile Challenge in Texas

Buttery Bros Compete in Inaugural World’s Toughest Mile Challenge in Texas

# The Buttery Bros Face the World’s Toughest Mile Challenge

The Buttery Bros, known for their challenging workouts, recently took on a new feat. Heber Cannon and Marston Sawyers participated in the first-ever World’s Toughest Mile event held in Texas. In a YouTube video, they competed with their friend Julian Marquez to see who could finish the rigorous workout the fastest before watching elite athletes attempt the same challenge.

The competition consists of completing 400 meters each of four tough exercises: burpee broad jumps, walking lunges, bear crawls, and a final 400-meter run. Although it seems straightforward, the challenge proved to be quite demanding.

## A Fast Start Turns Into a Tactical Battle

The race kicked off with Cannon and Marquez quickly moving ahead during the burpee broad jump segment. Utilizing his recent HYROX training, Cannon maintained a steady pace, while Marquez impressed everyone with his effective technique. Sawyers opted for a slower, more cautious start, deciding to follow the leaders instead of risking early exhaustion.

The race took a turn during the lunges. Marquez initially gained a strong advantage, but Cannon sped past him, establishing a significant lead. “He was an animal on lunging,” Marquez remarked as Cannon surged ahead.

By the end of the lunges, Cannon had a solid grip on the race.

## Bear Crawls Change Everything

The third portion of the challenge was crucial. Cannon entered the bear crawl segment first, but Sawyers began to close the gap. The bear crawl tested the competitors' endurance, and Marquez struggled to keep up as fatigue set in. “This is brutal,” he repeated throughout the segment.

As time passed, Sawyers caught up to Cannon just before the end of the crawl. This shift in momentum changed the outcome of the race. Sawyers emerged from the bear crawl first and quickly began the final run, securing the win. Cannon finished in second place, while Marquez pushed through to complete the challenge.

## More Than a Race

The second part of the video highlighted the broader purpose behind the World’s Toughest Mile. Endurance athlete Eric Hinman, along with fitness entrepreneur Guido Trinidad, aimed to unite individuals through shared challenges. Hinman described the event as a chance for athletes of all abilities to test themselves and build community bonds. “Anyone can do this,” he said.

The event included recreational, team, and competitive divisions, showing that the workout is accessible beyond elite athletes. Although Hinman set the record for the inaugural event with a time of 28:38, the main takeaway was not about speed.

As with many of the Buttery Bros' initiatives, the World’s Toughest Mile became a celebration of resilience, teamwork, and the significance of facing tough challenges together.
