Samsung Increases Employee Access to ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex Tools

# Samsung Expands Access to ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex for Employees
Samsung Electronics is broadening its employees' access to ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex, enabling staff to utilize AI tools for a wider range of tasks, both technical and non-technical. This initiative affects all Samsung Electronics employees in Korea and all Device eXperience (DX) employees globally. The DX division encompasses areas such as smartphones, consumer electronics, and home appliances.
The company intends to implement these AI tools in various functions, including software development, marketing, product innovation, manufacturing, and more. The use of these tools will facilitate tasks like information retrieval, document creation, idea generation, data analysis, and coding-related activities.
Three years ago, Samsung imposed restrictions on generative AI usage due to data security issues. In 2023, the company limited access to ChatGPT and similar platforms after concerns arose that sensitive information had been unintentionally shared on external AI platforms.
The current rollout provides employees with access to ChatGPT Enterprise, which includes robust data protection controls, user access mechanisms, and security management features. OpenAI has stated that the enterprise edition allows organizations to effectively manage user access while adhering to internal security standards.
Unlike earlier restrictions that pertained to specific teams or departments, this new initiative encompasses a variety of functions across both technical and non-technical teams. OpenAI emphasized that ChatGPT and Codex are designed to support knowledge-intensive tasks such as analyzing information, drafting documents, and interpreting data.
Codex will be instrumental in software development tasks, including writing, reviewing, and debugging code. OpenAI reported that Codex is also beneficial for internal projects, websites, software prototypes, and automated workflows, aiding non-technical teams in their daily operations.
Harrison Kim, general manager of OpenAI Korea, remarked that this agreement signifies one of OpenAI's largest enterprise deployments, showcasing Samsung's commitment to using AI across multiple teams.
Back in October 2025, Samsung announced a partnership with OpenAI to collaborate on the Stargate AI infrastructure initiative, anticipated to demand up to 900,000 DRAM wafers monthly. Samsung SDS has also collaborated with OpenAI to develop AI data centres and provide enterprise AI services.
Additionally, Samsung SDS signed a reseller partnership to offer OpenAI’s services in Korea, aiming to assist local businesses in adopting ChatGPT Enterprise and other OpenAI offerings. Reports indicate that Samsung Electronics along with SK Hynix, two of the leading South Korean chipmakers, are set to provide memory chips for OpenAI’s Stargate project, together controlling about 70% of the global DRAM sector.
High-bandwidth memory is crucial for effective data transfer within AI frameworks, and according to sources, OpenAI's requirements for the Stargate project may reach up to 900,000 wafers per month.
Research from Deloitte's 2026 State of AI in the Enterprise report revealed that 66% of businesses recognized productivity improvements due to AI integration. Meanwhile, a Bpifrance survey disclosed that 77% of 534 French mid-sized company heads confirmed their firms employ generative AI, although only 17% noted time savings from its use.
Samsung has clearly outlined various applications for these AI tools, including documentation, information analysis, coding, product development, marketing, and manufacturing. The deployment of ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex has been implemented under a company-wide agreement.
OpenAI is also cultivating partnerships in Korea, with Seoul National University recently rolling out ChatGPT Edu to 47,000 students, faculty, and staff. The collaboration with companies such as Kakao enables the integration of ChatGPT into KakaoTalk group chats. Other Korean organizations utilizing ChatGPT Enterprise and OpenAI APIs include LG Electronics, LG Uplus, and Krafton, among others.
