**Health Alert: Increased Sweating Risks for Antidepressant Users During Heatwave in the UK**

**Health Warning for Users of Sertraline, Citalopram, or Fluoxetine During Heatwave**
A health alert has been issued for those taking common antidepressants like sertraline, citalopram, or fluoxetine as a heatwave affects the UK.
Experts highlight that these medications can lead to increased sweating, which is a frequent side effect. This occurs because antidepressants can impact the hypothalamus, the part of the brain that regulates body temperature.
Dr Rupa Parmar explains, "Excess sweat is one of the most common side effects of antidepressants. It's most likely due to how the medication affects the hypothalamus, a brain part that plays an important role in regulating body temperature."
With higher temperatures, users need to be cautious. “Your body loses a lot of water from sweating, so to combat dehydration, drink at least three litres daily to regulate a normal body temperature,” advises a doctor. She adds that caffeine and alcohol can increase urine production, making hydration more difficult. Therefore, it's best to stick to water during the heat.
Officials advise those on these medications to remain vigilant about their hydration and overall wellbeing during the warm spell.
