## Search Efforts Halted Following Tragic Incident at Peneco Beach
A 23-year-old British man has been confirmed missing after he was last seen swimming at Peneco beach in Albufeira. The distressing event took place on the afternoon of June 11. Despite the initial search efforts, the search was paused early that evening without any sign of the young man.
The local authorities coordinated the search operations, which were led by the Port Captain and the Portimão Maritime Police. Rescue crews from the Ferragudo Life Saving Station and volunteers from the Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Albufeira also played critical roles, bringing in divers for the efforts.
"Following an alert at 6.37 pm from a fisherman in the vicinity, officers from the Portimao Local Maritime Police Command, the Albufeira Volunteer Firefighters' Humanitarian Association and the Albufeira Municipal Civil Protection Service were mobilised," according to Portuguese police.
Despite concerted efforts from emergency services and volunteers, the young man's whereabouts remained unknown as the search was suspended for the night.
