"To make your life easier in the future, you should waterproof the surface since weeds and biological growth need moisture to grow," he noted. Using a patio weatherproofing cream can help establish a protective barrier, keeping the surface dry and less prone to growth.
The cleaning process itself can also be streamlined. "Brush off the worst of the grime with a stiff brush and leave a soft, non-destructive cleaner for between 1 to 24 hours to kill and loosen biological growth," Mr. Kirby explained. After the treatment, rinsing the surface with a hose will ensure it is safe for pets and users.
After cleaning, it’s crucial to safeguard outdoor features. "Once clean and dry, protect your fence with a protective sealer," he recommended, advising that this should be applied directly using a brush or roller. Allow the sealer to absorb into the surface for proper efficacy.

For textured surfaces, smoothing them out with fine sandpaper or a denibbing pad can provide an attractive finish.
