US Tourist Claims Newcastle Rivals Popular European Destinations for Charm

A US tourist visiting friends in Newcastle has expressed her astonishment at the city, claiming it outshines well-known European destinations like Barcelona and Prague. The sentiments have left many locals scratching their heads.
During her visit, the American found Newcastle's charm irresistible. She noted that unlike the overcrowded attractions in other major European cities, the sights in Newcastle, such as St. Nicholas and St. Mary’s cathedrals, were refreshingly quiet. “Newcastle, like many European cities, has the requisite old cathedrals. But unlike Barcelona's La Sagrada Familia, Paris' Notre Dame or Cologne, these were not clogged with tourists—in fact, St. Nicholas and St. Mary's were almost empty,” stated writer and explorer Walter Meyer, who echoed similar sentiments about unexpected travel delights.
The tourist highlighted the welcoming atmosphere in Newcastle, where there were no admission fees at the cathedrals and enthusiastic tour guides eager to share their insights with visitors. Walter Meyer also remarked, “One of the joys of traveling, whether in the US or abroad, is coming across unexpected delights. Everyone expects to be charmed by Venice or Prague, almost to the point that it is hard for those popular tourist destinations to live up to the high expectations.”
