UKHSA Alerts Public to Carbon Monoxide Risks When Cooking with Gas This Christmas

# UKHSA Issues Warning About Dangerous Yellow Flame This Christmas

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued an important warning for the festive season. It’s crucial that people cooking with gas take notice of the warning about carbon monoxide. This silent killer is colourless, odourless, and tasteless, making it hard to detect.

As Christmas approaches and more people prepare festive meals, the UKHSA urges everyone to check their gas appliances. A yellow flame, instead of a blue one, can indicate that things are not functioning properly. This can lead to dangerous levels of carbon monoxide in the home.

"Cooking with gas this Christmas? Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless gas that you cannot see, smell or taste - but can be deadly. Installing a CO alarm will help protect you and your family," said the UKHSA in a post on X.

Families are reminded to regularly have their gas appliances checked. They are also advised to install carbon monoxide alarms to help keep their homes safe during the holiday period.

Proper ventilation is also essential in the kitchen when using gas. By staying aware, families can enjoy a safe and Merry Christmas.
