New Research Reveals the Most Attractive Body Fat Percentage for Men is 13-14%

New Research Reveals the Most Attractive Body Fat Percentage for Men is 13-14%

# The Ideal Body Fat Percentage for Men Revealed by New Research

A recent study has challenged common beliefs about male attractiveness in relation to body fat percentage. Dr. Mike Israetel from Renaissance Periodization discussed this research in a YouTube video, explaining findings that many fitness enthusiasts may find surprising.

The researchers aimed to find out if male attractiveness peaks at a certain body fat percentage or simply increases as fat decreases. They also wanted to see if factors like body mass index (BMI) or shoulder-to-waist ratio played a bigger role in determining attractiveness.

To reach these conclusions, 283 participants from China, Lithuania, and the United Kingdom rated 15 male body scans based on attractiveness. These scans displayed body fat percentages ranging from 5.9% to 37.2%, with faces and height excluded to focus on body composition alone.

The results showed a clear trend: participants preferred men with moderate body fat levels rather than the leanest physiques. The research indicates that the most attractive body fat percentage for men is around 13 to 14 percent. Additionally, a BMI between 23 and 27 was rated as most attractive, and a shoulder-to-waist ratio of roughly 1.57 was preferred. Remarkably, body fat percentage emerged as the key factor influencing attractiveness across all tested groups, and men and women rated attractiveness similarly.

These findings challenge the common belief held in bodybuilding culture that lower body fat is always more appealing. “People seem to prefer moderate male fatness, not extremes of fatness or leanness,” Dr. Israetel noted, highlighting the divergence from social media standards that often celebrate very low body fat levels. Instead, the study suggests that a leaner, athletic look is generally more attractive than extreme conditioning.

In practical terms, Dr. Israetel believes the most appealing range for trained men is between 10 and 17 percent body fat, with the optimal point closer to 12 to 15 percent. Factors like facial features and muscle distribution can affect this ideal, but the overall conclusion remains that a balanced, healthy physique is more desirable. Striving for visible veins and extreme definition may not be necessary; maintaining an athletic build while also focusing on confidence and grooming may yield better results for attractiveness.
