## The rise in midlife eating disorders among women in their 40s and 50s

Experts are increasingly concerned about a significant rise in eating disorders among women aged 40 to 60 in the UK. This trend has notably escalated over the past five years, particularly following the pandemic.

Dr. Joanna Silver, Lead Psychological Therapist at Orri, a specialist eating disorder clinic in London, highlighted this worrying change. "We've seen a noticeable rise in eating disorders among midlife women (aged 40-60) in the UK, particularly over the last five years since the pandemic, this pattern has continued," she explained.

Additionally, Dr. Silver pointed out that eating disorders are often more than just issues with food. "While eating disorders may look like they're about food, they're actually a way of managing feelings," she noted. This underscores the complex nature of such disorders, especially in midlife women.
