Jones revealed that he had been unaware of his depression until a friend noticed his decline. "I didn't know I had depression. I just felt bad. A friend came in because he was worried about me. I'd been in my pyjamas for four days. I never moved," he shared in an interview with The Sun. His struggle with mental health issues peaked during his time away from the public eye, as he grappled with the realities of unemployment.
The 63-year-old actor expressed the embarrassment of visiting the Job Centre, highlighting how he felt out of place in what he described as a stark environment for someone in his position. “It was embarrassing, and though nobody said anything to me, I knew that I was instantly recognisable and the Job Centre wasn't really the place I wanted to be.”
