Rain Halts Play at Italian Open, Interrupting Casper Ruud's Match

Play was abruptly halted at the Italian Open on Thursday as rain forced players, including Casper Ruud, to leave the court. This interruption occurred while Ruud was in a match during the tournament held in Rome.
As the players switched sides, the chair umpire remarked, "If we just stay just a minute here, and let's see what's happening." However, conditions worsened, leading to commentators noting the situation. Nick Lester stated, "Okay, so I think the players are going to be hurried off here," emphasizing the urgency of the matter.
Infrastructure adjustments were quickly made, with Lester adding, “The court is going to be covered, we're going to be, perhaps, a little while here, I'm afraid to say, while the rain moves through.” The decision to suspend play was in line with standard procedures for weather-related interruptions at major sporting events.
