Chris Philp, a Conservative MP, has sharply criticized Labour’s latest proposal regarding migration, asserting that it lacks the necessary measures to effectively combat illegal immigration. The remarks came following the announcement of Shabana Mahmood's plan, which Philp argues falls short of what is required to address the crisis.

Philp stated that the government’s announcement comprises “a combination of very small steps in the right direction” along with various gimmicks. This follows a track record in recent years where Labour has repeatedly promised solutions that have failed to materialize. "Remember, they used to claim they were going to smash the gangs, then they said they were going to intercept boats near the French shore, then they said they were going to have a one-in-one-out deal - which has turned out to be 16,000 people coming in and only 100 going out," he added.

The crucial issue at hand is the perceived inefficacy of Labour’s approach, which many believe is “tearing our country apart.” The party's inability to present a robust strategy has drawn sharp backlash, particularly from critics who demand tangible results over empty assurances. This ongoing criticism reflects the broader sentiment that immediate and concrete action, rather than mere political posturing, is necessary to tackle the pressing issues surrounding illegal immigration in the UK.

Philp emphasized that a solitary key change is essential to directly address the challenges posed by illegal migration, suggesting that without a comprehensive and resolute plan, Labour's proposals will remain ineffective.
