## Strong Message Urges Ceasefire and Dialogue

Pope Leo XIV has issued a passionate appeal for peace concerning the ongoing conflict in Iran. In a message shared on social media, he called on those involved in the violence to immediately declare a ceasefire and work towards reopening channels of communication.

The Pope stated, "On behalf of the Christians of the Middle East, and of all women and men of good will, I appeal to those responsible for this conflict: ceasefire! May paths of dialogue be reopened! Violence can never lead to the justice, stability and peace for which the peoples are waiting." His words reflect deep concern over the humanitarian crisis resulting from the escalating tensions.

The situation has worsened, with reports indicating that the conflict has severely impacted civilian life, including "schools, hospitals and residential centers," exacerbating the suffering of innocent people. The urgency of the message comes as fears grow that the conflict could spread further throughout the region, creating instability in countries such as Lebanon.

The Pope emphasized the need for peace by pointing out the alarming reports from Iran and the broader Middle East, which "continue to cause deep dismay." He highlighted the risk of expanding hostilities, urging people to pray for the end of violence, stating that "weapons must fall silent, and space must open for dialogue, in which people's voices may be heard."

Militarily, the situation remains tense, with the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) currently conducting targeted strikes against military positions in both Tehran and Beirut, amplifying fears of an even broader conflict. The Pope's call for justice and peace stands firm against this backdrop, urging immediate action to prevent further suffering among civilian populations.
