Drivers Advised to Use Apps for Up to 20p per Litre Fuel Savings

# Petrol and Diesel Drivers Urged to Use Apps for Savings of 20p per Litre
Drivers are being encouraged to take advantage of fuel price comparison apps that can lead to savings of up to 20p per litre on petrol and diesel. With fluctuating fuel prices, these applications give motorists the edge in finding the best deals at local petrol stations.
Apps such as PetrolPrices, the RAC's myRAC app, and the AA app utilize nearly real-time data. This allows users to see the current fuel prices at nearby service stations before setting out. "Apps including PetrolPrices, the RAC's myRAC app and the AA app now use this near-real-time data, meaning drivers can check exactly what fuel costs at every local forecourt before they leave home," said Trimbee.
In addition to using these apps, drivers are advised to combine this strategy with their loyalty cards for maximum savings. "The trick is to layer these things. Find the cheapest forecourt, then use your loyalty card," Trimbee added.
Speed also plays a crucial role in fuel efficiency. “The faster a car travels, the more drag and resistance the engine has to overcome. Reducing motorway speed by just 5 to 10mph can improve fuel economy by up to 14%,” Trimbee explained.
Moreover, simple vehicle maintenance can greatly impact fuel costs. Factors such as under-inflated tyres, heavy loads, and unused roof racks can diminish efficiency. "Small considerations can compound to a fair saving on fuel costs," emphasized Trimbee.
By employing these tips, drivers can effectively manage their fuel expenses, facilitating significant savings over time.
