Guardiola criticizes Leeds fans for booing Ramadan break during Man City match

# Pep Guardiola criticizes Leeds fans for booing Ramadan break for Man City Muslim players
Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, expressed his disappointment toward Leeds United fans who booed the Ramadan break during a match on February 28, 2026. This incident occurred during the Premier League game at Elland Road, where players were allowed a brief pause to observe their fasting.
The match's break was announced for players to complete their fast, a decision supported by The Premier League, which stated, “you can have one or two minutes.” Guardiola condemned the reaction from certain fans, emphasizing that their behaviour was inappropriate.
City's squad includes Muslim players who rely on such breaks during Ramadan, making this situation even more sensitive. Guardiola highlighted the importance of respect in football, especially concerning religious practices.
Notably, Leeds' manager Riemer also commented on the matter, stating, “I was focused on the game, so I didn't really hear it. But disappointed with some supporters that that happened.” Riemer acknowledged that the situation should prompt reflection, saying, “Obviously some of the supporters did it, so we try to learn out of it. It's disappointing. We need to do better next time.”
