Patients Dying Without Pain Relief Amid UK Hospice Crisis, Report Warns

### Patients 'dying without pain relief' in hospital corridors with UK hospices in 'crisis'

#### Britain faces a crisis in palliative care

Patients in the UK are reportedly experiencing severe challenges in obtaining proper palliative care as they die in hospital corridors without adequate pain relief. A major report from the public accounts committee reveals that the nation’s hospice system is under immense strain, placing vulnerable individuals at risk.

The findings of the report indicate that hospice care is being severely compromised due to inadequate resources. It was highlighted that the Government has been "without pain relief," leading to a crisis that requires immediate attention. Essential funding measures have not been implemented, exacerbating the issue.

This critical situation has resulted in an estimated loss of "1.5 million bed days and more than £800 million each year." This financial strain directly impacts patient care, leaving many without the support they need during their final days. The report explicitly states that the Government is "not responding to the growing financial crisis in the adult hospice sector with the seriousness and urgency needed,” further emphasizing the gravity of the crisis.

The public accounts committee emphasizes that many patients "do not want or need to be" in such dire circumstances, underscoring the urgent need for reform and substantial improvements in funding and resources for palliative care services across the country.
