Over-60s Turn to Private Healthcare as NHS Waitlist Exceeds 860,000 Patients

# Over-60s Spend Savings on Private Healthcare as NHS Wait List Tops 860,000

More people aged over 60 are using their savings to pay for private healthcare. This shift comes as NHS waiting lists have reached over 860,000 patients. Many older adults are facing long waits for treatment within the NHS system and are seeking quicker options.

According to reports, the rise in private healthcare spending among older adults is linked to the increasing delays for NHS services. As a result, many are deciding to skip long waits for procedures by opting for private care. The financial strain of this choice is significant, but it offers a path to faster treatment.

Laura Ashforth highlighted the new "Lateral Health Plan" that is tailored for individuals who wish to take control of their healthcare. "The Lateral Health Plan is designed for people who have no intention of stopping and are looking for clarity, support and choice when it comes to their healthcare - alongside the NHS, not instead of it," she stated.

The situation emphasises the growing divide between those who can afford private treatment and those who must rely on public services. With the NHS continuing to struggle with backlog issues, more over-60s might find themselves facing the choice of private care or enduring extended waits.
