Nigel Havers Admits Mistake Over Julian Fellowes' Writing Career

# Nigel Havers Acknowledges Major Blunder Regarding Julian Fellowes
Nigel Havers, a seasoned actor, has reflected on his long-standing relationship with Julian Fellowes, the esteemed creator of *Downton Abbey*. During a recent conversation, Havers admitted to a significant misjudgment he made regarding Fellowes’ career trajectory.
The two have known each other for many years, and Havers recalls a pivotal moment when Fellowes was pursuing writing, expressing doubts about his success. Havers remembers asking Fellowes, “Julian, what are you doing?” to which Fellowes replied, “I'm writing.” Havers and others in their circle mistakenly believed that Fellowes would not succeed as a writer, suggesting he should focus on acting instead. “We said: ‘Come and have a drink. You’ll never, ever get that off the ground. You’ll never make it as a writer. Come around here, you’re an actor.’ Well, we got that wrong!"
Now, with a successful title like *Downton Abbey* under Fellowes’ belt, Havers recognizes the error in their thinking. At 74, Havers has been encouraged by many to embark on a one-man show but initially resisted, stating, “I thought, 'No, no, I’m far too young.'” He soon faced the reality that he was ready for this new phase of his career, admitting, “Then I realised that I wasn't.”
The candid remarks highlight both the humility and growth that can come from acknowledging past mistakes in a highly competitive industry.
