Martin Lewis Urges Pensioners to Check for Missed DWP Benefits

Martin Lewis Urges Pensioners to Check for Missed DWP Benefits

# Martin Lewis Warns Pensioners About DWP Benefit Shortfalls

Martin Lewis has called on pensioners to verify whether they are receiving the full Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) benefits they may be entitled to. He specifically highlighted the significant issue of many older individuals missing out on important financial support.

Lewis pointed out that despite the government's efforts, a staggering 900,000 eligible pensioners are not claiming the Pension Credit income top-up. This figure is part of a larger pool of 2.3 million eligible individuals, emphasizing a critical gap in financial security for the oldest segments of society. "It's not good enough," he stressed in reference to this alarming statistic.

For pensioners who are single, those earning under £238 a week are likely to qualify for the benefit. Meanwhile, couples both receiving the State Pension may find it beneficial to check their eligibility if their combined income is under £380 a week. "SINGLE. Under £238/wk you're likely to get it, under £255/wk it's worth checking. COUPLE (both of State Pension age): Under £363/wk you're likely to get it, under £380/wk you it's worth checking," Mr. Lewis advised. He encouraged individuals not to hesitate and to either call or check online to see if they are entitled to the support.

This warning comes amid ongoing discussions about pensioner welfare, with Lewis urging immediate action to prevent further financial hardship. The implications for those who fail to claim these benefits are dire, given the rising cost of living and pressures on fixed incomes.
