## Maldives Takes Action Against Climate Change

The Maldives is actively addressing the urgent threat of climate change as sea levels rise. With its geographical vulnerability, the nation recognizes that waiting for higher polluting countries to take responsibility is no longer an option. The government is implementing significant measures to protect its islands, a vital resort destination for many British tourists.

Under the leadership of the President, there are plans to elevate land to three meters above sea level, ensuring resilience against climate impacts. "The land will be elevated to three metres above sea-level, making it resilient to climate change impacts," said the President.

The situation is particularly pressing as the economic stability of the Maldives is closely tied to tourism, with British visitors being a large part of the influx. "British tourists helped make the Maldives," noted Muizzu, highlighting the critical role they play in the economy. He added that "Britons were the first visitors in large numbers, and today they remain consistently in the top three nationalities."

Furthermore, the President emphasized that any development strategies must consider the climate crisis at the forefront. "We shouldn't talk about development without considering the climate crisis, and the plans to mitigate it," he stated, underscoring the importance of sustainable practices in future planning.
