# M1 Traffic Disruption: Motorway Shut After Cattle Trailer Overturns Near East Midlands Airport

Traffic congestion is intensifying on the M1 motorway after a serious incident earlier today. A trailer transporting cattle overturned, leading to the closure of a stretch of the M1 near East Midlands Airport. This incident has resulted in significant delays for drivers in the area.

The accident occurred when the trailer was involved in a collision, causing it to overturn on the motorway. National Highways confirmed that "a trailer carrying cattle has been involved in a collision and has overturned." The specifics of the incident are still being assessed, but the impact on travel has been considerable.

Motorists are advised on alternative routes to avoid the blockage. The recommended diversion involves exiting the M1 at Junction 23 and taking the first exit onto the A512 westbound, continuing for approximately 13 kilometers. At Junction 13 of the A42, drivers should take the fifth exit onto the A42 northbound, proceeding for around 14 kilometers and then merging back onto the M1 at Junction 23a.

Traffic authorities are actively managing the situation, with an emphasis on restoring safe travel as quickly as possible. Drivers are urged to remain alert and follow all posted detours.
