Labour Minister Suggests Potential Fuel Duty Increase Amid Driver Concerns

### Labour Minister Acknowledges Potential Fuel Duty Increase as Drivers Brace for 7p Hike
A Labour minister has indicated that motorists could face a rise in fuel duty after the upcoming Budget, which is a cause for concern among drivers. Simon Lightwood MP, the Shadow Transport Minister, spoke on the implications of a possible increase in duties on fuel prices.
While addressing the media, Lightwood commented on the uncertainty surrounding future fuel duty rates. "You're asking me to speculate way into future years here," he stated, hinting at the complexities involved in forecasting fiscal measures. He also mentioned that while he foresaw the duty remaining low, it is ultimately for the Chancellor of the Exchequer to determine any increases. "You're asking me to speculate on future Budgets, and I think I'll leave that for the Chancellor of the Exchequer to make those decisions," he added.
This situation arises amid widespread anxiety among drivers, who fear the financial burden of potential duty hikes. The government’s approach to fuel taxation is under scrutiny, as many are concerned about the implications for everyday costs and the broader economy.
