Labour gives major new pay-per-mile update as question answered

Heidi Alexander, the Labour Party's Transport Secretary, has officially announced that there are no current plans to implement a national pay-per-mile scheme. This statement came during a recent briefing, where she aimed to dispel concerns surrounding potential charges for motorists.

On Tuesday, Alexander confirmed that Labour remains committed to supporting drivers and that any discussions related to vehicle taxation will not include a mileage-based payment system. "There are no proposals to introduce a national pay-per-mile scheme. This Government is firmly on the side of drivers," responded Ms. Alexander when questioned about the topic.

The Labour spokesperson emphasized the party's focus on creating a fair tax system that adequately addresses road funding, infrastructure, and public services. They revealed plans to consider additional support measures aimed at making the ownership of electric vehicles more convenient and affordable for consumers. "Just as it is right to seek a tax system that fairly funds roads, infrastructure and public services, we will look at further support measures to make owning electric vehicles more convenient and more affordable," noted the spokesperson.
