Norfolk Recognised as the UK's Best Place to Live, Locals Celebrate

## I visited the UK's 'best place to live' that locals describe as 'a little bit naughty'

### Norfolk is lauded for its charm and local pride

Norfolk has recently gained acclaim as the finest place to live in the UK. Locals, such as Leanne Fridd, expressed familiarity with this status, stating, “When we were named as the best place to live in the UK, I would say most people in Norfolk went 'well yeah'. We already know it. But we do get forgotten about because of our location.” Situated a bit off the mainstream path, the appeal of this area becomes evident once visitors arrive.

The city is home to various attractions, including the Forum and a vast library known as the Millennium Library, a remarkable space created following the fire that destroyed the previous library. Dan, a local resident, highlighted its significance, remarking, “That’s incredible, and it’s just a lovely space to be, it’s a big, open community area and has a lovely café in it.”

However, Norfolk's allure goes beyond its amenities. Leanne continues, “It’s not on the way to anything, and it’s not trying to be anything. It also has a huge history through hundreds and hundreds of years of rebellion, quiet dissent, being a little bit naughty, and it does it in a really Norfolk-y way.”

Historically, the region has deep roots as the second city of England, largely due to its prominence in the wool trade and benefiting from the skills brought in by immigrants from the Walloons and Dutch areas. Dan noted, “We stayed in the 17th century, and we were the second city of England, the next city after London.”

Cultural diversity thrives here, which is amplified by the presence of two universities, welcoming many new residents. “There’s a real melting pot of culture, and because of the two universities, we have a lot of people moving here,” Leanne added, underscoring the dynamic community spirit.
