Experts Advise on Best Practices for Keeping Cool During Heatwaves

# Experts Weigh in on Keeping Windows Open During a Heatwave

A recent inquiry involving seven professionals has provided clarity on whether to keep windows open or shut during a heatwave. These specialists aimed to guide the public in managing temperature effectively in their homes.

According to Dr. Katie Tryon from Vitality Health, maintaining a cooler environment is crucial. “There are several things you can do to help yourself stay cool at night. Firstly, it's important to keep your bedroom cool. Drawing curtains and blinds during the day and keeping windows closed if in direct sunlight to stop hot air getting in can help. When night comes and the air gets cooler, leaving the window ajar to let a cool breeze in can also make it easier to sleep,” she stated.

Dr. Punam added that while opening windows and using fans are well-known methods for cooling, attention to personal comfort is equally significant. She explained, “While methods such as opening windows and using electric fans to cool your room's temperature are widely recognised, it's important to also focus on cooling down your body, as well as your surroundings, to maintain a high sleep quality during the summer months.”

Additionally, Victoria Robinson, a product expert from Hillarys, echoed this advice, emphasizing the importance of managing heat to ensure comfort during the warmer nights. With temperatures expected to rise, these insights serve as a reminder for individuals to take proactive measures in their environments.
