Urgent Warning as HMRC Tax Deadline Approaches, £100 Fines Await Late Filers

# Hours Left Until HMRC Tax Deadline When £100 Fines Begin

As the deadline approaches, individuals in the UK who have yet to submit their self-assessment tax returns face urgent warnings. The crucial time limit is set for midnight on Saturday, when late penalties will commence.

Failure to file a tax return by the deadline will result in an immediate £100 fine. This initial penalty escalates if the return is not filed within three months, incurring an additional charge of £10 for each day overdue. If payments are delayed, individuals could face a 5% fee on the outstanding tax after 30 days, with further charges after six and twelve months, all while accumulating interest on the unpaid amount.

"Time is quickly running out for anybody who still needs to file their self-assessment return, and if you don't get it in, or pay your bill before midnight on Saturday, the taxman will penalise you," said Alastair Douglas from Totally Money.

Individuals are advised to act promptly to avoid the increasing fines and potential interest accrual. The implications of these penalties can become increasingly harsh as the deadlines pass, underlining the importance of timely compliance with tax obligations.
