HMRC Confirms Extended Delays Due to Enhanced Security Payment Checks

# HMRC Updates on 'Extra Security Checks' for Payments
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has provided details regarding its enhanced security checks on payments. These measures have caused delays for some taxpayers expecting refunds from the government. HMRC confirmed that these additional checks are standard practice to ensure the integrity of payment processes.
Individuals recently questioned the timeframe for receiving their repayments. One asked, “How long does this usually take until it's in my bank account?” This concern highlights the growing frustration among taxpayers facing extended wait times. According to HMRC, if a repayment is requested, it may take up to 10 working days for the funds to be transferred via BACS, depending on the circumstances of each case.
However, HMRC admitted that repayments are sometimes subject to further scrutiny. “We do select repayments for extra security checks. Currently, it can take up to 12 weeks to receive the refund,” the group stated. Many taxpayers impacted by this process are urged to be patient as HMRC prioritises secure transactions.
Furthermore, HMRC anticipates that from June onwards, these checks will be streamlined, potentially improving the processing time for future repayments. Taxpayers are encouraged to remain vigilant and keep track of any updates from HMRC regarding their accounts and upcoming changes to these procedures.
