Laafi Disqualified from Grand National Victory for Whip Limit Violation

## Grand National Festival Champion Disqualified After Exceeding Whipping Limit
Laafi, expertly ridden by Patrick M O'Brien, claimed victory in the Debenhams Handicap Hurdle at the Randox Grand National Festival on April 10, 2026. However, the celebrations were short-lived as the horse was disqualified due to exceeding the whip limit during the race.
The incident occurred on the second day of the festival at Aintree Racecourse, where Laafi initially crossed the finish line ahead of the competition. Sadly, it was later determined that O'Brien had used the whip four times beyond the allowable limit, leading to the disqualification.
Following this ruling, stable representative Gary Bannon expressed his disappointment, but also highlighted the emotional impact of the win. “It's brilliant for Bill who is 88 years of age and still loving the game. He was the first on the phone and he's in tears,” he remarked.
The disqualification serves as a stark reminder of the strict regulations governing the use of whips in horse racing, aimed at safeguarding animal welfare.
