Grandmother Directed to Call 999 for Finger Injury After Inadequate Local Medical Assistance

# Gran Told to 'Dial 999' After Seeking Help for Finger Cut
Pauline Shilito, a grandmother, faced unexpected trouble after injuring her finger. She asked for help from a pharmacist and a GP but was advised to call emergency services instead.
Mrs. Shilito first visited the pharmacist to get a plaster for her cut. However, she was told, "We don't deal with blood." Feeling frustrated, she went to her GP, where the receptionist informed her that there was no nurse on duty that day. She then heard, "So then I went to the GP, but the receptionist said, 'We have no nurse on duty today,' and told me to call 999."
In distress, Mrs. Shilito explained that she was crying with a blood-soaked kitchen towel wrapped around her finger. Fortunately, a passerby noticed her situation and came to assist her. "She saw me crying with a piece of blood-soaked kitchen towel around my finger and helped me," said the former John Lewis shop assistant.
The incident highlights the challenges some face when seeking basic medical care.
