New payment rates for Universal Credit from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) for the financial year 2026/27 took effect on April 6, 2026. These changes are aimed at providing increased support for those relying on Universal Credit as they navigate financial challenges.
The adjustments to the Universal Credit payment rates are significant. Single claimants aged 25 and over will receive a standard allowance of £1,172.48 annually. For those within the same age group but living with partners, the joint standard allowance will be set at £1,901.74 each year.
In addition, claimants aged 16 to 24 will see their standard allowance rise to £1,044.40 annually. Additionally, there are specific rates for children and young individuals. For each child under the age of 16, the payment will be £292.11 per month, while the rate for those aged 16 to 19 stands at £377.37 per month.
