Foreign Office Issues Travel Advisory Due to Diarrhoea Outbreak in Popular Winter Sun Destination

# Foreign Office Updates Travel Advice for Popular Winter Sun Destination Amid Diarrhoea Outbreak

The Foreign Office has revised its travel guidance for a well-known winter sun island currently experiencing a diarrhoea outbreak. This update arrives just as January—typically a peak month for holidaymakers—draws closer.

Officials are particularly concerned about the presence of Shigella bacteria, which can lead to severe diarrhoea, along with accompanying symptoms such as fever and stomach cramps. "Shigella are bacteria that can cause severe diarrhoea, fever and stomach cramps. Most people recover within a week; however, some individuals, such as older adults, individuals with weakened immune systems, those with complex medical conditions, pregnant women, and children under five, may be at greater risk of complications including sepsis," stated The NaTHNaC.

The outbreak has prompted the Foreign Office to advise travellers to exercise caution. This initiative comes as health authorities work to manage the situation on the island while ensuring the safety of visitors. Emergency contacts have been provided for those who may require assistance during their stay.
