Ethereum Foundation Seeks to Establish Network as Trust Layer for AI Systems

**Ethereum Foundation Aims to Position Network as the Trust Layer for AI**
The Ethereum Foundation has announced its ambition to establish the Ethereum network as a foundational trust layer for artificial intelligence (AI). The initiative seeks to enhance the properties of AI to ensure user data remains protected and sovereignty is maintained. This announcement comes as discussions around AI’s implications for personal privacy and self-governance gain urgency.
The Ethereum Foundation notes that it is crucial for AI to embody essential qualities such as self-sovereignty, censorship resistance, and privacy. “If AI doesn't have the properties we care about — self-sovereignty, censorship resistance, privacy — and then we use AI for everything, basically no one has those properties anymore,” said a spokesperson to CoinDesk in an interview at the event.
The efforts focus on empowering users to maintain control over their data. "We want to create a world where users retain as much data and power as possible," said Crapis, emphasizing that the goal is to prevent centralised operators from gaining excessive control. "We just don't give it to operators," he added, reinforcing the foundation's commitment to user autonomy.
By positioning the Ethereum network as a trust layer for AI technologies, the foundation aims to combine the benefits of blockchain with the growing capabilities of AI. This strategic direction could redefine how users interact with AI systems, ensuring a level of security and privacy that aligns with the foundational ethos of the Ethereum community.
