Couples Advised to Check Eligibility for Up to £1,000 Tax Benefit Before Deadline

### Couples Urged to Verify Eligibility for Up to £1,000 as Deadline Approaches

Experts are advising couples to ensure they check their eligibility for potential tax benefits that could provide them with up to £1,000. Laura Pomfret has emphasized the importance of claiming these entitlements, especially as the deadline looms.

The marriage allowance scheme allows the lower-earning partner to transfer £1,260 of their tax allowance to their spouse. "The marriage allowance lets the person earning less transfer £1,260 of their allowance to their partner. So their spouse has an increased personal allowance of £13,830 instead of the £12,570, which means they'll have a little less of their income taxed at the 20% base rate," said Laura. This benefit can result in significant tax reductions for qualifying couples.

Couples should not only consider their current situation. "You may be separated or divorced now, and but if you were eligible during the past four years, you could still claim for those backdated payments. Make your claim in the same way as a couple that are still together and still married," Laura noted. This means that even if circumstances have changed, it is crucial to explore past eligibility for this financial relief.

As the deadline to make claims approaches, affected couples are urged to act swiftly to secure their potential benefits. The reminder to verify entitlement aims to ensure that no eligible couple misses out on the opportunity to claim these funds and ease their financial burden.
