# Chaos in Europe as Two Planes from Serbia Diverted Due to Drone Attacks - Airport Closed
Flights scheduled to land in Russia faced unexpected disruptions due to security threats linked to drone attacks. Two planes originating from Serbia had to reroute to Helsinki, Finland, after their intended destination, St. Petersburg, was temporarily closed.
The incidents occurred early this morning when both aircraft were redirected to Helsinki Airport as a contingency measure. According to Finland's Coast Guard, “Two aircraft en route from Serbia to St. Petersburg landed early this morning at @HelsinkiAirport, which was serving as an alternate airport, as the St Petersburg airport was temporarily closed. After refuelling, one aircraft was able to continue its journey, while the other remained at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport because of a technical problem.”
This significant security situation has raised concerns about air travel in the region, prompting officials to implement additional safety measures for flights arriving in and out of affected areas. The exact nature of the drone attacks remains under investigation, but authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further disruptions.
