Chair Test Reveals Potential Indicators of Early Death Risk, Study Finds

### 30-second Chair Test Could Indicate Risk of Early Death

A recent study has uncovered that a straightforward chair test can help identify individuals who may face a higher risk of early death. Researchers found that this quick exercise measures a person's strength and mobility, which can be important indicators of overall health.

The test involves standing up from a sitting position and returning to the chair as many times as possible within 30 seconds. Results indicated that lower performance in this test connects to serious health risks. Specifically, a link was observed between failing this test and an increased likelihood of hospitalisation and longer recovery times.

The findings highlight that people, especially women, with low scores on the sit-to-stand test often had a history of hip fractures. In men, low performance was linked to previous falls and various types of fractures. The study authors noted, "Low relative sit-to-stand (STS) power was associated with history of hip fractures in women, whereas in men it was associated with history of falls and all-type fractures. Low relative STS power predicted hospitalisations in women but not in men. In both men and women, low relative STS power was associated with longer hospital stays and increased risk of all-cause mortality."

These results underscore the potential of this simple chair test as a valuable health screening tool for identifying risks early on.
